Hello LCPL fans!
The summer has proven that there’s never a dull moment in Leadville! We have a big month ahead in August so read on for all the details.
Closures & Cancellations
The library will be open on Friday the 7th (a county holiday), but closed on Saturday August 8th for Boom Days. Come on out to the parade to see us!
There will be a planned network outage and limited library services on Monday, August 3rd and Tuesday, August 4th.
While the library will remain open, we will have limited services available. This disruption is necessary in order to upgrade our network servers for better reliability. This disruption will affect not just LCPL, but all libraries in Colorado under the Marmot Library Network.
Here are the main points you need to know:
You CAN:
- Check out materials like books, playaways, video games, DVDs, and Audiobooks
- Use your personal device to access our Wi-fi
- Attend scheduled programming
- Copies & faxing but no printing
- Pick up your holds that have already arrived
You will NOT be able to access:
- Tool Library or Library of Things checkouts
- Access our card catalog/search features
- Place holds or Renew items
- Access your library account online
- Use library computers and iPads
- Create a new library account
- Use the Creation Station computer
- GALE research database access
- Local history research help
You CAN have access to the following IF YOU PREPARE:
- Libby, Kanopy, New York Times
- You MUST ensure you’re logged in by Sunday August 2nd
- If you do not log in before the outage starts, you will not have access during the outage.

Upcoming Events
The Summer Reading Program comes to an end on Saturday August 1st! Make sure to log at least 600 minutes before the end of the day to unlock your completion prize and your chance at winning our grand prize raffles! Winners will be announced starting Monday, August 3rd. To sign up and log your hours, visit our webpage HERE. Help us reach our community reading goal of 180,000 minutes!!

Trivia Night with Sam: Library Edition
Friday, August 21st at Freight | Doors open at 6:00, the fun starts at 6:30
$10 at the door
Join us at Freight for a fun filled night of library trivia. Doors open at 6pm with a $10 donation. Bring your friends and snacks! This year, the library will also be holding a raffle during trivia. The grand prize is a 4 Pack to Copper Mountain! Raffle tickets can be purchased in any quantity. Must be present to win. See you there!
Carlton Tunnel Rehabilitation Project
Friday August 28th | 6:30-8:30pm | AMAX Room at the Library
Saturday, August 29th | 10:00am | Meeting at the Carlton Tunnel **AS FIRE CONDITIONS ALLOW**
The former Busk-Ivanhoe Tunnel, now known as the Carlton Tunnel, was originally part of the Colorado Midland Railroad that traveled between Leadville and Aspen. Join David Jurich, PE and Shawna Von Stockhausen, PE on Friday for a presentation on the historical information and current life of this important part of our local history. (There will be snacks!) Then, on Saturday, meet out at the tunnel for more fun! Please note that the Saturday portion of this event is subject to change depending on accessibility due to the Willow Fire. Stay tuned to our calendar for the latest.

Every month we read one book, and meet on the 1st Wednesday to discuss our readings. Discussion meetings held in the Library, or around town. This month Anni will be guest hosting in July.
Once you register, someone from the library will reach out with details regarding the month's and readers may come to the library to get their book for the upcoming month.
*At least 8 copies of the book on hand--first come, first serve.*
2nd Wednesday of the month | 12:30-3:30 | Baby Doe Room
Stop by the library on the second Wednesday of every month from 12:30-3:30 to meet with a representative of the Colorado Workforce Center. For employees and employers. Get help and resources for all things related to jobs and careers!
1st Thursday of the Month | 6:30 - 8:30pm | Ages 18+ (or teens with parent/guardian)
Join the Tarot Tarts to enjoy a space of community while learning more about tarot. Bring your deck or use one of ours! No registration required.
Second Thursday of the month | 6:30 - 8:30pm | Ages 18+
Are you an adult who likes playing games? Whether you're new to board games or a pro, come to the library and have fun with us! Every month we'll have a different featured game. Popcorn, hot chocolate, and tea will be provided; feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks. Leave your kids at home & bring your competitive spirit! No registration required.
Fridays | 3:00 - 4:00 | Ages Suggested 12+
Every Friday, build decks, trade cards, and challenge friends to matches. Suggested for ages 12+ but all interested are welcome! No registration required.

Do you struggle to get to the library during business hours? Is leaving your home a challenge? We can bring library materials to you! Whether you want to be surprised with topics you choose or you want to choose specific materials, the library can drop off and pick up your items whenever and wherever it is convenient for you. We have a ton of tools available for your home improvement projects this summer! All LCPL resident library cardholders (with accounts in good standing) are eligible to check out tools AFTER they complete a Tool Library Orientation. You can request your orientation appointment on our website HERE.

We have a ton of cool things to check out this summer at the library! From Colorado State Park Passes, to telescopes, to craft kits, musical instruments, yard games and more! All LCPL resident library cardholders (with accounts in good standing) are eligible to check out from the Library of Things after a waiting period of 30 days from the time they get their card and they fill out the waiver. Stop by and check out all the cool things we have!
BY APPOINTMENT | All Ages
Create, create, create! Unleash your creativity and craftyness with the LCPL Creation Station. Make all kinds of things like: stickers, hats, t-shirts, keychains, mugs, puzzles, mousepads, custom etching of drinkware, custom wood engraving, and SO much more! All LCPL resident cardholders (in good standing) are eligible after completing an orientation. To sweeten the deal, LCPL provides one free “blank” item a month for you to create with! Additional supplies can be purchased at low cost from the library or you can bring your own supplies in. (Don’t worry, we can give you guidelines on what to buy.) ¡El verano ha demostrado que nunca hay un momento aburrido en Leadville! Tenemos un gran mes por delante en agosto, así que sigue leyendo para conocer todos los detalles.
Cierres y Cancelaciones

Durante este tiempo SÍ podrás:

- Usar tu propio dispositivo para conectarte a nuestro Wi-Fi.
- Asistir a los programas y actividades programadas.
- Hacer copias y enviar faxes (no habrá servicio de impresión).
- Recoger las reservas que ya hayan llegado.
Durante este tiempo NO podrás:
- Sacar materiales de la Biblioteca de Herramientas o la Biblioteca de Cosas.
- Acceder al catálogo o buscar materiales.
- Reservar materiales o renovar préstamos.
- Acceder a tu cuenta de la biblioteca en línea.
- Usar las computadoras o iPads de la biblioteca.
- Crear una nueva cuenta de biblioteca.
- Usar la computadora de la Creation Station.
- Acceder a la base de datos de investigación GALE.
- Recibir ayuda para investigaciones de historia local.

El antiguo Túnel Busk-Ivanhoe, ahora conocido como Túnel Carlton, formó parte del histórico Ferrocarril Colorado Midland, que conectaba Leadville con Aspen.
Acompaña a David Jurich, PE, y Shawna Von Stockhausen, PE, el viernes para conocer la historia y la importancia actual de este sitio histórico. ¡Habrá botana!
El sábado nos reuniremos en el túnel para continuar con la actividad.
