Summer is coming to a close and we’re ready to welcome in all things fall; from back to school, the crisp air, and spooky season. Read on to see what’s going down this fall at LCPL.
Closures & Cancellations
We will be closed Saturday, September 5th and Monday September 7th for Labor day. There will be no programs on those days.
We will be closed on Saturday, September 19th for maintenance work.
Upcoming Events
Mark your calendars for Friday, October 2nd at 2-5pm! Come try out the Creation Station at our Fall Back Into Creativity Open House! Choose from three fun projects to make and take home while getting familiar with our creative tools and equipment. Whether you’re new to the Creation Station or just looking for a chance to get creative, drop in and see what you can make!
No experience necessary—just bring your creativity!
Remember to keep Thursday, October 8th on your radar for this year’s Banned Books Week Author Talk at Freight. This year we’re hosting Gabby Rivera, author of Juliet Takes a Breath. Doors open at 5:30 with a free community dinner provided by Tacos La Muñeca food truck. The talk with Gabby will get underway at 6:30. Gabby is an American writer and storyteller of Puerto Rican heritage who grew up in the Bronx, NY. Her mom, aunties, and the women in her community were the strongest people she knew. They taught her how to find her strength–in softness, gentleness, and humor. When Marvel Comics asked Gabby to write the story of America Chavez, their first queer Latina superhero, she proved that heroes could be kind and vulnerable, too. Gabby is also the author of the young adult novel Juliet Takes a Breath, which she will be reading from during the event. We will also have copies available for purchase. We can’t wait to host her for this annual community event and we hope to see you there!
Announcements
This year, the library has partnered with LCSD to provide every enrolled student with a library card. The One Card is a fabulous program that helps ensure every student has access to the resources the library provides to aid their literacy development. In the coming weeks, every student who opted in will receive a new library card. This card functions exactly as a LCPL Youth Card functions and will allow students to check out books both while on their class visits to the library and on any personal visits to the library.
For those who signed up: To log in to their accounts, once students receive their card, students should enter their library card number here. They should then receive a password reset link sent to the email address used during school registration. If an email was not provided during registration, they can contact the library to reset their password.
If a student already has a LCPL Youth card: their existing card will be merged with the new One Card over the course of the next few weeks. They will be able to check out library materials with either card when they visit the library. The merging should not affect any Libby items or book holds placed. Should you experience any issues, please contact the Library via phone (719) 486-0569 or by stopping in and speaking to the front desk.

Enjoy fun read-alouds in English and Spanish during the first half hour and connect with new friends and explore open-ended play that promotes fine and gross motor skills. Together we'll foster early literacy through reading, singing, talking, writing, and playing in a welcoming bilingual environment.

Every month we read one book, and meet on the 1st Wednesday to discuss our readings. Discussion meetings held in the Library, or around town.
Once you register, someone from the library will reach out with details regarding the month's and readers may come to the library to get their book for the upcoming month.

Do you struggle to get to the library during business hours? Is leaving your home a challenge? We can bring library materials to you! Whether you want to be surprised with topics you choose or you want to choose specific materials, the library can drop off and pick up your items whenever and wherever it is convenient for you. We have a ton of tools available for your home improvement projects this summer! All LCPL resident library cardholders (with accounts in good standing) are eligible to check out tools AFTER they complete a Tool Library Orientation. You can request your orientation appointment on our website HERE.

We have a ton of things to check out this summer at the library! From Colorado State Park Passes, to telescopes, to craft kits, musical instruments, yard games and more! All LCPL resident library cardholders (with accounts in good standing) are eligible to check out from the Library of Things after a waiting period of 30 days from the time they get their card and they fill out the waiver. Stop by and check out all the cool things we have!
The Creation Station
BY APPOINTMENT | All Ages
Create, create, create! Unleash your creativity and craftyness with the LCPL Creation Station. Make all kinds of things like: stickers, hats, t-shirts, keychains, mugs, puzzles, mousepads, custom etching of drinkware, custom wood engraving, and SO much more! With gifting season around the corner, keep the Creation Station in mind for fun, personalized gifts for your loved ones.
All LCPL resident cardholders (in good standing) are eligible after completing an orientation. To sweeten the deal, LCPL provides one free “blank” item a month for you to create with! Additional supplies can be purchased at low cost from the library or you can bring your own supplies in. Click HERE for more information about the Creation Station and to get started.

Proximos Eventos
¡Marca tu calendario para el viernes 2 de Octubre, de 2-5pm! Ven a conocer la Estación de Creación durante nuestra Casa Abierta “Fall Back Into Creativity” (De vuelta a la creatividad). Elige entre tres proyectos divertidos para crear y llevarte a casa mientras conoces nuestras herramientas y equipos creativos. Ya sea que sea tu primera vez en la Estación o simplemente estés buscando una oportunidad para dejar volar tu creatividad, ¡pasa a visitarnos y descubre todo lo que puedes crear!
No necesitas experiencia, solo trae tu creatividad.
Recuerda reservar el jueves 8 de Octubre para la Charla de Autora de la Semana de los Libros Prohibidos en Freight. Este año tendremos como invitada a Gabby Rivera, autora de Juliet Takes a Breath. Las puertas abrirán a las 5:30 pm y tendremos una cena comunitaria ofrecida por Tacos la Muñeca. La charla con Gabby comenzará a las 6:30pm. Gabby es una escritora y narradora estadounidense de ascendencia puertorriqueña que creció en Bronx, Nueva York. Su mamá, sus tías y las mujeres de su comunidad fueron las personas mas fuertes que conoció. Ellas les enseñaron a encontrar su propia fortaleza en la sensibilidad, la gentileza y el humor. Cuando Marvel Comics le pidió a Gabby que escribiera la historia de América Chávez, su primera superheroína latina queer, ella demostró que los héroes también pueden ser amables y vulnerables. Gabby también es autora de la novela juvenil Julieta Takes a Breath, de la cual hará una lectura durante el evento. También tendremos ejemplares disponibles para comprar. ¡Estamos muy emocionados de recibirla en este evento comunitario anual y esperamos verte allí!

Este año, la biblioteca se ha asociado con LCD para proporcionar una tarjeta de biblioteca a cada estudiante inscrito. One Card es un excelente programa que ayuda a garantizar que todos los estudiantes tengan acceso a los recursos que ofrece la biblioteca para apoyar el desarrollo de sus habilidades de alfabetización. En las próximas semanas, cada estudiante que haya optado por participar recibirá una nueva tarjeta de biblioteca. Esta tarjeta funciona exactamente igual que una tarjeta juvenil de LCPL y permitirá a los estudiantes sacar libros tanto durante sus visitas escolares a la biblioteca como durante sus visitas personales.
Para quienes se inscribieron: Para iniciar la sesión en sus cuentas, una vez que reciban su tarjeta, los estudiantes deberán ingresar su número de tarjeta aquí. Después, recibirán un enlace para restablecer su contraseña en la dirección del correo electrónico utilizado durante la inscripción escolar. Si no proporcionas un correo electrónico durante la inscripción, pueden comunicarse con la biblioteca para restablecer su contraseña.
Si el estudiante ya tiene una tarjeta juvenil de LCPL: Su tarjeta actual se combinará con la nueva tarjeta One Card durante las próximas semanas. Cada mes leemos un libro y nos reunimos el primer miércoles para conversar sobre nuestra lectura. Las reuniones se llevan a cabo en la biblioteca o en diferentes lugares de la comunidad.

Y para hacerlo aún mejor, LCPL ofrece un artículo “en blanco” gratis cada mes para que puedas crear algo. También puedes comprar materiales adicionales a bajo costo en la biblioteca o traer tus propios materiales.
