We’re making our way into fall and enjoying the change of seasons. Storytimes and Crafty Hour are back, we have new programs like Lego Robotics Lab and Magic The Gathering Club getting started, and fun adult programs to choose from. We have a few things to share with you so please, read on…

The Plant Based Dyeing Workshop on Saturday September 27th from 9-1 has just a few more spots left! Make sure to claim your spot today here!

Don’t forget The Creation Station is an awesome resource for you to expand your creativity and make cool stuff for yourself, friends, and family. If you feel like you’d like a little more guidance on how to use it, stop by the How To Workshop on September 24th from 3:30-5:00. This month, Matt will be teaching us how to make magnets! Best of all, this session doubles as your orientation requirement to get started using The Creation Station. 

We would like to announce that the LCPL Board of Trustees has two upcoming vacancies. We are currently accepting letters of interest from people who would like to be a part of all the amazing benefits the library offers to our community. Please submit your LOI’s to trustee@LakeCountyPublicLibrary.org at your earliest convenience. 

Our Community:

Attention all Halloween lovers! Do you have old costumes you or your kids have outgrown? Are you looking for a new costume but don’t want to buy something again? LCPL will be hosting a FREE Halloween Costume Exchange in October! We’ll be seeking your clean, gently used costumes and props for both kids and adults so start getting your things ready now! Details are COMING SOON so check our website and social media in the upcoming week to find out everything you need to know.

Our Collections:

Fall means it’s Banned Books season. This is one of our most favorite times of year. Why? Because we get to bring awareness to issues surrounding censorship and spread the word about how libraries everywhere stand up for your rights and freedoms! The next time you stop into the library, we invite you to  take a look around. We have put together a few displays for you of books that have been challenged and/or banned by special interest groups in various locations in the US and around the world. LCPL is proud to make sure these books remain accessible for all and we’ve also added a little card inside these books to let you know WHY someone has tried to ban that book. Be sure to check the regular book shelves for even more banned books, too!

Another reason we love Banned Books season is because of our annual Banned Books Week Author Talk. It’s an incredible night filled with community & meaningful discussion. We are SO excited to be bringing the highly awarded author Jason Reynolds to Leadville this year on October 9th at Freight. Doors will open at 5:30 and a free dinner will be served. The main event gets underway at 6:30 with the author talk, the Q&A session, and a book signing and our limited edition library merch will be available for a suggested donation. We will provide interpretation services at the event. Stop by the library ASAP to pick up your very own copy of one of Jason’s books (in english or spanish) while supplies last.

Taller “Cómo Hacerlo”: Imanes en el Creation Station el martes, 24 de septiembre de 3-5pm ¿Quieres sacarle más provecho al Creation Station? Acompaña a Matt en un taller práctico para hacer imanes. Esta sesión también cuenta como requisito de orientación para comenzar a usar el Creation Station por tu cuenta.  

La Junta Directiva de LCPL tendrá dos vacantes próximamente. Actualmente estamos aceptando cartas de interés de personas de la comunidad que quieran formar parte de los beneficios y el impacto que ofrece la biblioteca. ¡Atención amantes de Halloween! ¿Tienes disfraces que tú o tus hijos ya no usan? ¿Buscas un disfraz nuevo pero no quieres volver a gastar dinero? LCPL organizará un intercambio GRATUITO de disfraces de halloween en octubre. Estaremos recibiendo disfraces y accesorios limpios y en buen estado, tanto para niños como para adultos. ¡Empieza a prepararlos desde ahora! Los detalles se anunciarán pronto, así que revisa nuestra página web y redes sociales la próxima semana para enterarte de todo. 

Nuestras Colecciones

El otoño también significa que llegó la temporada de Libros Prohibidos ¡una de nuestras favoritas del año! ¿Por qué? Porque podemos crear conciencia sobre la censura y celebrar tu derecho a leer.  La próxima vez que visites la biblioteca, te invitamos a recorrer nuestras exhibiciones de libros que han sido cuestionados o prohibidos en distintos lugares de Estados Unidos y del mundo. En LCPL nos enorgullece asegurarnos de que estos libros sigan siendo accesibles para todos, y además hemos agregado una tarjeta dentro de cada libro explicando por qué alguien intentó prohibirlo. ¡No olvides revisar también los estantes regulares para encontrar aún más títulos!  

Otra razón por la que nos encanta esta temporada es por nuestro encuentro Anual con el Autor de la semana de los Libros Prohibidos. Será una noche increíble llena de comunidad y conversación significativa. Estamos MUY emocionados de traer este  año a Leadville al galardonado autor Jason Reynolds el miércoles, 9 de octubre en Freight. Puertas abren a las 5:30pm con cena gratuita, sesión de preguntas y respuestas, y firma de libros a las 6:30pm y mercancía especial de la biblioteca disponible con donación sugerida. Habrá servicios de interpretación. Copias gratuitas de los libros de Jason (en inglés y en español) disponibles en la biblioteca hasta agotar existencias.
