Hello everyone!
As we move forward into “spooky season” we’re excited to share all things October with you. From our costume exchange to our Banned Books Week Author Talk there is something for everyone this month. Read on for more information:
Closures & Cancellations
We will be closed Saturday October 4th through Monday October 6th. Bilingual Storytime and Minecraft Club will NOT take place. Normal hours will resume Tuesday the 7th.
We will be closing early at 4pm on Thursday October 9th for the Banned Books Week Author Talk with Jason Reynolds. Come see us starting at 5:30 at Freight! Board Game Night for Adults will be canceled on Thursday October 9th (so you can come to the Banned Books Author Talk) and will happen on Thursday October 16th instead.
Read & Discover Storytime will be cancelled on Thursday, October 16th.
Events
We’re excited to announce our FIRST Halloween costume exchange will be happening Friday October 10th and Saturday October 11th during regular business hours. From now, until October 9th please drop off any gently used costume items for any age. Then, stop by on the 10th or 11th during regular business hours to find something perfect for this year’s Trick or Treat street (Sunday October 26th 1-3pm all along Harrison Avenue) or for your next Spookie Soireé. You do not need to donate a costume to take a costume.
Don’t forget to drop by our 4th annual Banned Books Week Author Talk on October 9th on Freight. The incredible author Jason Reynolds will be joining us to speak about his work, literary freedom, and the rise of censorship for books. There will be a reading of his work, an interview, a Q&A with the audience, and free dinner. Spanish interpretation will be provided. Doors open at 5:30pm at Freight. We would like to announce that the LCPL Board of Trustees has two upcoming vacancies. We are currently accepting letters of interest from people who would like to be a part of all the amazing benefits the library offers to our community. October 13th - Squish, Shape, Create!: Get ready to mix, squish, and mold! In this hands-on activity, we’ll make our very own kinetic sand from scratch. Then, you can shape, sculpt, and play with your custom creation—perfect for endless sensory fun. Register here!
October 27th - Haunted Glow Painting: Step into the shadows and unleash your creativity with eerie glow-in-the-dark paints. Craft chilling scenes that shine under blacklight, from ghostly figures to haunted landscapes. Perfect for anyone who loves art with a spooky twist.

Every month we read one book, and meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays to discuss our readings. Discussion meetings held in the Library, or around town. Once you register, Matt from the library will reach out with details regarding details and readers may come to the library to get their book for the upcoming month.

Thursdays | 10:30 - 11:30am | Ages 0-5
Storytime from 10:30-11am - Fun read-alouds and activities to build literacy: read-sing-talk-write-play! Then stay & play from 11-11:30am - Make new friends and enjoy open-ended playtime while developing fine and gross motor skills and supporting social emotional learning. No registration required.

Join the “Tarot Tarts” to enjoy a space of community while learning more about tarot. Bring your deck or use one of ours! No registration required.
October is our 3rd anniversary of Tarot Club! We're having a potluck and will be playing Tarot Bingo. Please bring a dish of your choosing with a list of the ingredients to share.
Third Thursday of this month | 6:30 - 8:30pm | Ages 18+
Are you an adult who likes playing games? Whether you're new to board games or a pro, come to the library and have fun with us! Every month we'll have a different featured game. Popcorn, hot chocolate, and tea will be provided; feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks. Leave your kids at home & bring your competitive spirit! No registration required.

Every Friday, build decks, trade cards, and challenge friends to matches. Suggested for ages 12+ but all interested are welcome! No registration required.
Fridays | 10:30 - Noon | Ages 8+
Play with LEGOs and practice programming skills! Using the Library's LEGO robotics kits along with the LEGO Mindstorms app, youth can build and program robots of their own creation. Robotics kits will be available every Friday on a first-come, first-served basis. Robots constructed during the program can be saved for next time, but there will be no reserving that robot if youth choose not to return the following week, or are late. No registration required.

Do you struggle to get to the library during business hours? Is leaving your home a challenge? We can bring library materials to you! Whether you want to be surprised with topics you choose or you want to choose specific materials, the library can drop off and pick up your items whenever and wherever it is convenient for you. ¡Hola a todos!
A medida que entramos en la “temporada espeluznante”, estamos muy emocionados de compartir con ustedes todo lo que traerá octubre. Desde nuestro intercambio de disfraces hasta nuestra charla de autor por la Semana de los Libros Prohibidos, este mes habrá algo para todos. Sigan leyendo para más información:
Cierres Y Cancelaciones
Cerraremos del sábado 4 al lunes 6 de octubre. NO habrá Hora de Cuentos Bilingües ni Club de Minecraft. Horario normal a partir del martes 7. La Noche de Juegos de Mesa para Adultos se cancela el jueves 9 de octubre (¡para que puedan asistir a la Charla de Autor de Libros Prohibidos!) y se llevará a cabo el jueves 16 de octubre en su lugar.
Cerraremos el jueves 9 de octubre a las 4pm para el evento de Libros Prohibidos con el Autor Jason Reynolds. ¡Acompañanos en Freight a las 5:30pm!
La Hora de Cuentos será cancelada el jueves 16 de octubre.
Eventos
¡Estamos felices de anunciar nuestro primer intercambio de disfraces de halloween! Será el viernes 10 y sábado 10 de octubre durante el horario regular de la biblioteca. Desde ahora hasta el 9 de octubre, deja disfraces en buen estado (para cualquier edad). El 10 y 11 pasa a escoger un disfraz perfecto para el Trick or Treat Street (domingo 26 de octubre, 1-3 pm en Harrison Avenue) o para tu próxima fiesta espeluznante. No necesitas donar un disfraz para llevarte uno.
No olvides nuestra 4ª Charla Anual de Autor de la Semana de los Libros Prohibidos 9 de octubre en Freight. El increíble Jason Reynolds hablará sobre su obra, la libertad literaria y el aumento de la censura en los libros. Incluye: lectura, entrevista, preguntas del público y cena gratuita. Habrá interpretación al español. Puertas abiertas a las 5:30pm.

27 de octubre- Noche de Pintura Fantasmal con Brillo Adéntrate en las sombras y desata tu creatividad con inquietantes pinturas que brillan en la oscuridad. Crea escenas escalofriantes que resplandecen bajo la luz negra, desde figuras fantasmales hasta paisajes embrujados. Perfecto para quienes disfrutan del arte con un toque espeluznante.

Cada mes leemos un libro y nos reunimos el primer y tercer miércoles para conversar sobre nuestras lecturas. Las reuniones de discusión se llevan a cabo en la biblioteca o en diferentes lugares de la ciudad. Una vez que te registres, Matt de la biblioteca se pondrá en contacto contigo con más detalles, y los lectores podrán recoger su libro en la biblioteca para el mes siguiente.
