August Newsletter: 2nd Edition | Bóletin de Agosto: Segunda Edición

Hello, Lake County!
As summer winds down, there’s still plenty happening at LCPL! From community events and creative programs to resources for all ages, we’ve got lots of ways to connect, learn, and have a little fun before fall arrives. Take a look at what’s coming up in the second half of August!
Announcements
The library will be closing early on Thursday, August 27th at 4pm.
Reminders
We have two super fun special events this month that you should mark down on your calendars now:
Trivia with Sam: Library Night
Friday August 21st at Freight | Doors open at 6pm
Ready to test your library trivia knowledge? Come out to support LCPL and Banned Books Week during Trivia with Sam! Doors open at 6pm at Freight and the fun gets started around 6:30. $10 donation at the door and you can BYO snacks. Winner takes home some sweet library swag bags!
**We will also be conducting an additional raffle and the grand prize is a Copper 4 pack! You MUST be present to win, so make your way to Freight on the 21st!**

Carlton Tunnel Rehabilitation project
Friday August 28th at the Library | 6:30pm
Do you love local history? Have you hiked Windsor Lake or Hagerman Pass and wondered about the story of the tunnel you pass by? This program is a must attend event! Presenters David Jurich, PE and Shawna Von Stockhausen, PE will be presenting historical information and current work on what was originally called the Busk-Ivanhoe Tunnel and is now known as the Carlton Tunnel. Come for the history, learn about it’s future, and have some snacks on us along the way! Then, on Saturday the 29th, weather and fire closures permitting, meet David and Shawna at the tunnel for an on-site presentation.

Our Community
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Summer Reading Challenge: Unearth a Story! We had 218 readers participate and we read nearly 130,000 minutes, collectively. Well done! We can’t thank our partners enough for their help in all the programming we did the community. Tessa at The National Mining Museum, Nature’s Educators, Kevin Singel with Finding Gold in Colorado, and M. BrookeS with Paleo Artistry all shared so much time, knowledge, and inspiration with our community and we’re very grateful to them all. Check out some of the photo highlights of the summer below!

Our Collection:
Did you know that we’ve been adding new tools to the Tool Library all summer long? During your next home project, don’t forget to check us out first to see if we can help you save some cash by just borrowing tools instead of buying them. All Lake County (adult) residents with a resident library card in good standing are eligible to check out tools once they’ve completed a tool library orientation. Recently, we’ve added some ball end hex key sets, a lithium battery jump starter, a push lawn mower, a drywall cut out rotary tool, a 3 ton truck jack and jack stand pair, a cordless polisher kit, a rotary tool drill press, and more!
Interested? Click here to request your orientation appointment.
Which event will we see you at later this month?
Cheers,
LCPL
