For a small county library, we are fortunate in having a surprising number of well organized tools for Lake County Genealogical research.  Visitors are urged to allow ample time because genealogical research, to be really thorough, takes a lot of time.  The Local History clerk can assist you with your searches and show you where our sources are located and help you get started.
Our local history clerk can also search for you.  Requests are searched in the order received and you will be billed only for photocopies you request.  Please send details, including a return mailing address to:

Office hours are 9am-12 noon and 1pm-4pm - Monday thru Thursday
Birth and death certificates:  This office handles Lake County records only.  (Out of county applications available.
    Birth certificates available for years 1910 to present.
    Death certificates available for years 1903 to present.  A limited number of death records exist for years prior to 1903, however, not all can be made into certified records (informative only).
    Cost for first certified copy or record or search of files when no record found:  $15.00
    Each additional certified copy of the same record ordered at the same time:  $6.00
    A full name and date of birth or death (must provide at minimum the year) required for search to commence.  Records searched + 3 years from date provided.
    Records for years 1985-1992 must be obtained from State Vital records.
    Birth and death records are not open to the public.  Staff must conduct search.
